Wage suspension can be applied if an employee who is ill does not cooperate in providing information, which the employer should have in the context of determining the amount of wages. Other situations in which the wage suspension can and may be used effectively are having to be available to the employer, appearing at appointments with the company doctor.
Prior to the imposition of the wage suspension, the employee must however be given a (written) warning, in which the employee is given the opportunity to still escape the wage suspension. It is advisable to make it known in an absenteeism protocol, which control rules apply in case of illness as well as that, in case of violation, wages will be suspended after a prior warning.
