Wage sanction from the UWV

The UWV can oblige an employer to continue to pay wages during illness for a third year following the continued payment obligation during the first two years of illness. Dismissal is then not possible.

The UWV will impose this wage penalty if the UWV is of the opinion that an employer has insufficiently fulfilled the reintegration obligations during the first 24 months. This wage payment obligation in the third year of illness can be shortened if an employer still fulfils the requirements in the third year of illness
